Damp Proofing in Birmingham and the West Midlands (Cause Found First, Treatment Only If Needed)

0121 330 2385

Open 7 days a week, 9am-7pm. Covering Birmingham and the West Midlands.

We find the cause before we recommend a cure. Gutters, pointing, ground levels and ventilation come first.

Local damp specialists, close to wherever you are

Eco Damp Proofers works across Birmingham and the West Midlands, including Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, Walsall, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton. If you have a damp patch, a musty bedroom or a survey report that mentions moisture, we can come out, look at the building and tell you plainly what is going on.

Sometimes the answer is a blocked gutter or a high garden path, and we would rather tell you that than sell you something you don’t need. Where treatment is needed, you get a written quote before any work starts, including cheaper options where they exist.

Our service areas

Our work is concentrated in and around the city, with regular trips further out across the region. We cover busy suburbs and market towns as well as quieter rural edges.

These areas each have their own page:

We also work in West Bromwich, Smethwick, Oldbury, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Halesowen, Tamworth, Lichfield, Cannock, Bromsgrove, Redditch, Stourbridge, Coventry, Nuneaton and Kidderminster. If your town isn’t listed, call us anyway and we’ll tell you honestly whether we can reach you.

What we offer

We cover the full range of damp problems, but we start by working out which one you actually have.

  • Damp surveys: a careful inspection to find where the moisture comes from, with a plain-English explanation of what we found.
  • Damp proofing: treatment for rising and penetrating damp, only after we have ruled out simpler causes.
  • Condensation and mould control: advice on ventilation, heating and airflow. The English Housing Survey 2024 to 2025 (MHCLG) found serious condensation was the most common form of damp in English homes, at 3%, ahead of penetrating damp (2%) and rising damp (1%).
  • Basement and cellar waterproofing: for below-ground rooms that stay wet or smell stale.

We work for homeowners, buyers with a worrying survey, and landlords. Damp affected 10% of privately rented homes in England, 7% of social rented homes and 4% of owner-occupied homes in 2024 (English Housing Survey 2024 to 2025, MHCLG). Since 27 October 2025, Awaab’s Law has required social landlords in England to investigate significant damp and mould hazards within 10 working days, and to complete safety works within 5 working days (GOV.UK, MHCLG, 2025). If you’re a landlord, we can help you understand the problem and what needs doing.

The advantage of a local team

Housing across the region is very mixed, and damp behaves differently in each type. Victorian and Edwardian terraces often have solid brick walls, old pointing and floors close to ground level. Interwar semis bring their own quirks, from cavity walls to bay windows. Post-war flats tend to suffer more from condensation, poor airflow and leaking pipes. Someone who has worked on all of these knows where to look first.

Weather matters too. Birmingham (Winterbourne) sees rain of 1 mm or more on about 133 days a year (Met Office, 1991-2020 averages), so gutters, downpipes and brickwork take a regular battering. A local team understands that, and we can get to you quickly because we’re not travelling in from another region. We are open 7 days a week, 9am-7pm, so you don’t have to wait for a weekday.

Questions about our coverage

Do you cover my town?

Probably. We work across Birmingham and the West Midlands, including Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, Walsall, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton, and in towns such as Dudley, Tamworth, Lichfield, Redditch and Coventry. If you’re near the edge of that area or unsure, call 0121 330 2385 and we’ll confirm straight away.

Does the price change depending on where I live?

Location can play a part, but it is rarely the biggest factor. Checkatrade’s 2026 damp proofing cost guide says price depends on the type and severity of the damp, the treatment method, the size of the area, access and the property’s location. Checkatrade, 2026, also lists an average of £1,104 for damp proofing in Hall Green, Birmingham. We give a written quote before any work starts.

Do you work in rural areas and smaller towns?

Yes. Our coverage includes market towns and rural edges as well as built-up suburbs, from Lichfield and Bromsgrove to Kidderminster and Nuneaton. Older cottages and farmhouses often have thick walls and raised ground outside, so we check drainage and ground levels carefully. Call us and we’ll talk through your property before arranging a visit.

Can you help if I’m buying or renting out a property in your area?

Yes. Buyers whose survey has flagged damp can ask us to find out whether it is a minor repair or something bigger. Landlords can use us to investigate a complaint and understand what needs doing. In both cases you get a plain explanation and a written quote, and we’ll say if the problem is simpler than the report suggests.

Find out if we cover you

Tell us where you are and what you’ve noticed, and we’ll let you know honestly whether we can help and what the first step should be. Call for a damp survey on 0121 330 2385, any day between 9am and 7pm.
